“Despite popular misunderstanding the right to freedom of the press guaranteed by the first amendment is not very different from the right to freedom of speech. It allows an individual to express themselves through publication and dissemination. It is part of the constitutional protection of freedom of expression. It does not afford members of the media any special rights or privileges not afforded to citizens in general.”
This is the LIFETIME Parent to Parent blog portion of this site. Here is a place that people should post their feelings and experiences when dealing with the welfare system. Whether it be the long day spent trying to reach a worker to being unfairly flagged for welfare fraud, we are here to listen. We will offer advice, however, you never know how much you can learn from telling your story and hearing/reading others. Someone may have been through the same thing that you have and can not only offer you some suggestions, but may also be able to benefit off of something that you have learned as well.
We are hopeful that this can help fight against the horrible stigma of people on welfare being lazy and refusing to work etc. People can begin to understand that being on welfare is not a reflection of work ethic or your ability to perform, nor is it reason to belittle or devalue. Not only does this serve as an online community of support, it also puts you in the loop of people who actively lobby for you when legislation comes up regarding education, CalWorks and Medical/Medicare as well as other desperately needed social programming. What better way to represent you and fight for you than listening to you and knowing what is it that you need?
